Our story
A national callfor healing.
The movement
Not a campaign. A journey.
Walk Her Story is Footprints Foundation’s survivor-centred initiative focused on healing, storytelling, accountability, and coaction. The movement aims to shift South Africa’s response to gender-based violence by engaging survivors, families, communities, schools, and national partners in collective healing and prevention.
Too often the public conversation around GBV centres statistics, perpetrators, or policy alone. Walk Her Story centres the survivor — her voice, her pace, her choices. Healing is not a single moment. It is a journey a community must walk together.
We launch nationally in 2026 with community walks, survivor-led healing spaces, digital storytelling, impact partnerships, and school-based programmes — rolling out province by province.

“Walk Her Story is a national call for healing — for women, for children, and for communities who have carried the weight of silence for too long.”
Theory of change
Survivors first. Community next. Systems last.
What we believe
- Healing precedes activism — survivors are not tools for advocacy.
- Storytelling belongs to the one who lived it.
- Accountability is collective — families, institutions, systems.
- Prevention starts in schools, homes, and sports fields.
- No single organisation ends GBV; partnerships must.
How we walk
- Survivor-led healing circles, facilitated safely.
- Community walks that name what has been silenced.
- Digital storytelling on the survivor’s terms.
- School programmes with age-appropriate curricula.
- Impact partnerships with sport, faith, and civic bodies.
